Art park + Nathaniel Russell
Nathaniel Russell makes drawings, prints, and paintings of mysterious figures, inspirational imagery, imaginary books and posters, primitive character study, dream thoughts, and references to our common subconscious connections.
Born and raised in Indiana, he studied print making at Ball State University in Muncie. After graduating with a BFA, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, making work and teaching letterpress at Kala Art Institute, working at a record store and a record label, and getting involved in art exhibits and events at various galleries, shops, and warehouses around Oakland, SF and Berkeley.
His work has become closely affiliated with the group of artists and designers associated with Mollusk surf shop in San Francisco. He has been a part of countless art shows at the Mollusk gallery and designed many of the shirts and graphics for the shops in SF, Venice and Brooklyn.
His prints and drawings have been exhibited internationally in numerous solo, group and traveling exhibitions in cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, London, and Tokyo. zines of his drawings have been published by small presses in Scotland, Canada, and Germany. His Illustrations and designs have been featured in the Listography series of books, Dwell, Magazine, and album covers for record labels such as Sub Pop, Bella Union, Secretly Canadian, Asthamtic Kitty, Brushfire, and many others.
He is currently living and working in Indianapolis, Indiana.
